Methylphenidate , marketed under the brand names Ritalin and Concerta, among others, is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant used in the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. It can be administered orally or applied to the skin, and different formulations have varying durations of effect.[3] For ADHD, methylphenidate’s efficacy is comparable to atomoxetine,[11][12][13][14] but slightly less than amphetamines,[15][16][17][18] in alleviating executive function deficits in sustained attention, inhibition, working memory, reaction time,[19] and emotional self-regulation.[20][21]
